So, my official first day at FXB was January 11th. On that day, all the new "ten-weekers" were evaluated using several tests and measures.
Phase One: First test was a four minute step test. We used a plastic step that is often found in the kitchen, stepping left foot up, right foot up then left foot down, right foot down. Sounds easy...until you do it for FOUR minutes! I was breathing really hard and my thighs were burning by the time we were finished. Next, they measured us around our chest, waist, upper arm, thigh and hips. We were weighed and our body fat was measured.
Phase Two: Push-ups (I did 38!), sit-ups (I did 16; my pants kept slipping down!), sit and reach (14") and a one mile run. Needless to say, I couldn't run much of it. [Backstory: I got shin splints in high school playing basketball and my shins have never been the same.] I started at a slow jog, but it quickly turned into a fast walk. We were supposed to go four laps around this field, but Dan (the owner of FXB Denver as well as one of the instructors) told me I could just go around twice if I wanted to. I agreed and kept walking as fast as I could. Therefore, my time for half a mile was 9 minutes 50 seconds.
We will do these evaluations again at Week 5 and Week 10. I'll keep posting weekly about how class is going. I'm still really loving this class and hope to turn it into a long-term part of my fitness routine.
