sick of being sick

I have been sick several times in the last few months.  After several doctor appointments and missed days of work, I have come to the realization that I have to take over the reins regarding my health.  I became enlightened during my latest bout of the crud.

I subscribe to Netflix in lieu of paying for cable.  It saves me $40+ per month and deters me from sitting mindlessly in front of the TV and channel surfing, most days.  :)  I've been watching a lot of documentaries on the food industry and the medical field.  Most recently, I viewed "Food Matters."  In fact, I watched it twice, back-to-back, because I was so taken by what "The Teachers" had to say.  Of course, I know that I have a choice about what goes into my body.  Yes, I am able to read and comprehend food labels.  For some reason, maybe because I feel like shit and want to not feel like shit, this movie was the slap upside the head that I needed!

I'm starting small in order to make my changes lasting ones without feeling overwhelmed.  First and foremost, I'm drinking water.  LOTS of water!  I drink two 20 oz glasses of water upon waking.  I don't ingest anything else, liquid or solid, until that is done.  It helps me wake up and gets my body moving.

I bought lots of organic fruits and vegetables during my weekly shopping trip.  To my surprise, my grocery bill was only $55!  The total also included TP, "girl products," etc.  I also bought almond milk instead of cow milk because I'm forever throwing it away because it smells after only a few days.  Not to mention all the saturated fat and possible hormones I was ingesting!

I have rid my cupboards of all oils and cooking sprays.  I threw out my favorite Ramen Noodles because they're sooo not good for me.  I'm about to take another swipe at my cupboards; pitching out sugar, white flour, etc.

It's a lengthy process, and it will be challenging, but I feel better already.  I've been eating a lot of produce, drinking lots of water, nixed snacking most of the time and I feel good.  Later today, I'm going to order some items to make Casey and Emily's homemade protein powder mix.  They talk about some of the same elements that the movie does.  My Vitamix stands at the ready, as does my health.

I'll let you know how things are progressing as I incorporate changes into my life.  As it stood this morning, I am down 30 pounds from my heaviest.  That's definitely something I am very proud of and want to continue celebrating with bigger numbers!

whoa, chica! -30 lbs. is a very big accomplishment! It's like a bag of dog food! I'm so very proud of you and all these positive changes you're making. I'm afraid to ask why you are getting rid of the oils...
